About
Jesus Rivera holds a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Trinity International University. He is a proud Waukegan resident and a 2.5-generation Puerto Rican who brings a deep appreciation for culture, community, and lived experience into his clinical work.
Jesus believes that every person is made in the image of God and possesses the capacity for growth, healing, and meaningful change. His counseling approach is grounded in empathy, respect, and compassion, creating a space where clients feel understood and supported.
Before joining Mosaic Wholeness Center, Jesús worked as a para-educator for 18 years. This experience shaped his ability to build strong professional relationships and to meet people with patience, understanding, and care. He has experience in addiction counseling and specializes in problematic gambling, while also working with individuals facing anxiety, stress, and relationship challenges.
Jesus uses a person-centered approach and integrates evidence-based practices from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Drawing from his strong cultural and spiritual roots, he empowers clients to share their unique stories, identify their strengths, and move toward personal goals at their own pace.
Outside of counseling, Jesus enjoys researching topics of interest, reading speculative fiction, journaling, watching movies, listening to music, attending live performances, and participating in community events.
